School Uniform / Mobile Phones

(School Uniform) / Learner school clothing

Cardrew Court school does not have a school uniform that learners must wear. Learners should come to school in clothes that are mindful of health and safety within school.  

Parents and carers are requested to support the school with the below, ensuring your child does not come into school in clothing that is not appropriate for school wear.

Therefore, no: 

  • Open-backed, open-toed, steel-toed or high-heeled shoes.  

  • Low cut tops, high cut belly tops, strappy vest tops, T shirts, jumpers that can expose skin to injury within practical subjects, no rips in jeans or any ripped clothes. 

  • Short-legged (above mid-thigh) skirts, shorts, or trousers that could expose skin to injury within practical subjects.  

  • No fancy dress outfits.  

  • No specialist sports kits or equipment.  

  • No masks, snoods, facial shielding unless for religious or medical purposes.  

  • Inappropriate slogans, slogans placed on intimate areas of clothing. 

  We would prefer learners not to wear make-up. However, if it is worn, it should be light and discrete. We will discourage false nails or nail extensions as they pose a risk to health and safety within practical subjects but will allow them if the learner and parents feel it is needed as part of the learner’s management of their individual needs. 

  Jewellery and accessories rules 

  • Please be aware that we cannot allow learners to wear dangly earrings, skater type key chains, or long necklaces to school for Health and Safety reasons.  

  • Learners are permitted to wear stud earrings and stud nose piercings as well as a necklace that can be tucked into their tops. If earrings or nose rings are worn, these need to be safe and practical for all lessons / activities participated in across the school.  

  • Rings can be worn, 1 per hand of a band type style therefore no large stones, or designs that can get caught and cause injury. 

  • All jewellery should be removed for PE, Outdoor Ed and Food lessons and any other physical activity whereby such items could cause an injury whilst being worn. 

  • No studs or spikes to be worn or adorned on clothing. 

  • Biker chains, spikes, large rings, and excessive amounts of jewellery will not be permitted, 

  • Inappropriate, discriminatory, or offensive slogans, pin badges on clothing are not permitted. 

  • Whilst we want learners to be comfortable in school, they should not wear items like these to school. 

 

Meetings will take place between Teacher and parents / carers should clothing, make up or jewellery become a distraction to learning or contravenes health and safety. 

The above also applies to Outdoor Education sessions, PE lessons and all school events held both in and out of school in school time. 

Mobile phone and internet connective devices

We do not allow learners to carry their mobile phones or internet-connectable devices with them during school hours. If mobile phones or devices are brought to school, we ask that they are handed in and locked away securely within our reception for the duration of the school day.

Learners will then be issued back their devices at the end of the school day.
